Day 1

  • Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State Nigeria (map)

Arrival and Evening of Remembrance

Guests arrive in Ado-Ekiti and settle in as family, friends, and well-wishers gather for the valediction of our father, Chief Ashaolu.

The evening begins with a private reception at Oba Rawaa’s compound, an intimate space chosen for its warmth and familiarity. It is a time to reconnect, exchange greetings, and ease into the days ahead in the company of loved ones.

Later in the night, the gathering flows naturally into “The Historian’s Corner”, a relaxed, ad-lib storytelling session in the spirit of Chief himself. As a historian who deeply cherished oral tradition, music, and the power of shared memory, this moment is dedicated to stories told, songs remembered, laughter shared, and reflections offered freely. It is not a performance, but a living conversation, just the way he loved history to be remembered.

This opening evening sets the tone for the days that follow: reflective, communal, and rooted in the traditions that shaped his life and legacy.
