"A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops."
In the classrooms where Chief Ashaolu stood, he did more than just teach; he forged futures. A master of the English language, he wielded words with a precision that unlocked the world for his students. Today, the ivory towers of academia are filled with Professors who were once his pupils—living testimonies to his dedication. He proved that excellence knows no borders, and through his books, his voice will continue to echo in the halls of learning forever. He was an architect of minds and custodian of our history.
The Oba Ráwã of Igbólé: A Pillar of Ethics
In a world where integrity is often rare, Chief Ashaolu was a fortress of sincere honesty and transparency. As the Ọba Ráwà, who sat on the throne for 48 years, he carried his office with a decency that demanded respect.
To him, accountability wasn't a policy; it was a way of life. Whether in the sacred aisles of the church or the communal gatherings of Igbólé-Èkìtì, he was the standard-bearer for discipline. You always knew where he stood, because he stood on the truth.
The Great Storyteller and Custodian
Chief Ashaolu was a historian of repute, having earned his Degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He was the first living library I know. He possessed a rare blend of native wisdom and acquired knowledge, a man who could navigate the complexities of modern society while remaining deeply rooted in the history of his ancestors. He was the great storyteller who could make the past come alive, ensuring that the heritage of Igbólé-Èkìtì was never lost to the wind. With a sharp wit and a deep well of stories, he had the unique gift of putting a smile on every face he encountered.
The Patriarch’s Final Lesson
As the patriarch of the esteemed Ashaolu family, he led with the heart of a father and the mind of a sage. His life was a masterclass in how to live with purpose. He taught us that a man’s greatest wealth isn't what he keeps, but the lives he shapes and the decency he leaves behind.
A Final Salute
Erin lílá subú kòle dìde o.......... Ọba Ráwà ti wa'ja! The King is dead, Long live the King!
The chalk may be laid down, and the storyteller’s voice may be hushed, but the fire he lit in the hearts of his students and his community will never be extinguished.
Rest in peace, Chief Ashaolu.
The Ọba Ráwà has gone to join the greats, but Igbólé-Èkìtì will forever walk in the light of the wisdom he shared.
